The DS-100 has a number of applications, some in conjunction with other Teltone products.

Standalone Operation

In this application, the DS-100 allows remote data communication with multiple devices at a utility substation. This eliminates the cost of dedicated phone lines to each device. Example endpoints include fault locating relay, fault recorder, and electronic meter.

Voice & Data System

In this application, the DS-100 is used in conjunction with an SLSS (Substation Line Sharing Switch) at a utility substation. The DS-100 provides port sharing for data devices, while the SLSS provides line sharing for telephony devices. In this mixed voice and data environment, multiple devices of each flavor can communicate over a single telephone line with the help of the SLSS and DS-100.
